Materials that match Georgia lawns (not generic “leveling mix” marketing)

What success looks like (and what one visit will not do)

After top dressing, expect a sandy look until grass grows through. Recovery speed depends on grass type, weather, irrigation, and how low we cut. Light washout after extreme rain can happen; small areas can often be brushed back, and we will coach you on when a touch-up makes sense and we can return after service at no charge when needed.

Be blunt with yourself about leveling: one visit rarely “finishes” a lumpy Atlanta lawn. Top dressing typically improves half-inch-scale unevenness meaningfully; deeper depressions take material and time—often a multi-year path—with spot leveling when it helps. Is top dressing the same as lawn leveling?
Top dressing is the service and the system (prep, aeration, material, finish). Leveling is the outcome you build—usually across more than one season for real Atlanta clay yards. Many people use the terms interchangeably, and we can ultimately mix and spread any combination of amendments or materials we need to apply to a yard.

What sand do you use?
Most often screened river sand for first-time and compaction-heavy lawns, hauled with our own trucks. We will tell you if masonry or another approach fits better later in your program. We caution AGAINST using masonry sand for first time leveling because the finer particle size and overapplying it can cause MORE compaction in a lawn and hurt the soil profile over the long run.

Will this fix drainage problems?
It can improve the top few inches and how water moves near the surface and absorbs. It will not rewrite your yard’s topography. Pooling from grade or downspouts needs drainage/grading first, which is something we can also take care of for you and then smooth over with top dressing a few weeks later.

Can I just buy sand and DIY?
You can buy sand. Matching particle size to clay, getting height of cut right, aerating deep enough, spreading evenly, and finishing edges is where DIY jobs turn lumpy or buried.

When is the best time?
When warm-season grass is growing strongly enough to recover—commonly spring through summer in North Metro. If unsure of timing, just ask us; we will be straight with you.
