Fall Aeration & Overseeding
Fall Aeration & Overseeding is the minimum annual maintenance service that we recommend for keeping your Fescue lawn healthy and full. If you have an established Fescue Lawn, Level Lawns is your #1 choice for this service!
Atlanta's climate zone is right on the edge of where Fescue grass can thrive, and it's a great option for shady areas and tree lined back yards. Despite that shade, the heat of summer and dry stretches of weather will put added stress on Fescue grass. Most Fescue lawns, even when watered regularly, will begin to show some signs of heat stress in late July and August. We perform Aeration and Overseeding services starting late August and into November to maintain the fullness of your fescue lawn. This is the ideal time to plant Fescue seed!
With all of our Fescue services, we use the best seed blends available that are specifically engineered for our climate zone to have the best combination of heat/drought tolerance while also having the ability to thrive in shady areas. Not all Fescue seed is created equal and good quality seed is expensive! These seed blends are rated by a 3rd party(NTEP) and are often "Blue Tag Certified"--these tiers of seed represent the top 1% of seed available, and are certified to be free of weeds and other crop seeds that are often present in inferior seed blends.
We apply our seed at the proper rate for maintaining an established Fescue lawn using the highest quality spreaders with experienced crew members who are careful to ensure the right application rate and avoid overspreading of seed into beds and non-turf areas. With Aeration and Overseeding, we also apply a premium blended starter fertilizer to ensure your newly planted seed is fed through germination and establishment.
Fescue Aeration and Overseeding is designed for ESTABLISHED lawns as a maintenance service that should be done annually, and is not intended to repair bare areas or establish a new lawn. We do offer renovations, compost top dressing, or compost additions w/ overseeding to help establish new lawns in these areas, but encourage our customers to let us assess these areas and help determine the root causes of the bare areas. Established and healthy fescue lawns should not have large areas that are bare or covered in moss. In these cases, Level Lawns can the root causes and offer options to establish a healthy lawn!
